Are You Struggling To Change?

Are you struggling to change?

Take Small Steps to Create Lasting Change without Overwhelm

Have you ever found yourself saying, “I’m going to start eating healthy on Monday!” but when Monday rolls around, you’re back to thinking, “Maybe next week is better”? If that sounds familiar, you’re definitely not alone. 🙋🏾‍♀️

This tug-of-war between wanting to change but also wanting to stay the same is called ambivalence. You’re torn between becoming the healthier, stronger you and staying in the comfort of what you know. Let’s be real—change can feel like a whole lotta work.

Why You Get Stuck

Woman looking stressed

You might feel stuck in the cycle of wanting to make a change but never quite getting there. It’s like having a never ending to-do list that never gets done—always in progress, but never complete. Ambivalence is normal, but it can also keep you from taking action. You spend so much time weighing the pros and cons that you never actually make a move.

Flip the Script on Ambivalence by Asking Breakthrough Questions

So, how do you break the cycle? It starts with looking inside yourself and asking some real questions. Get right into it and start with these:

  1. What’s GOOD about NOT CHANGING?

  2. What’s BAD about CHANGING?

These questions might seem simple, but trust—they’re powerful. Every behavior you have serves a purpose, even the ones that seem like they’re holding you back.

Maybe you snack late at night, knowing it’s not the best for your health, but it helps you unwind after a long day. Or maybe you restrict calories to feel a sense of control when life gets chaotic, even though it’s starting to take a toll on your health.

The Push and Pull

This is where the real work begins. Once you understand why you do what you do, you can start figuring out how to support yourself in ways that aligns with your goals.

If late-night snacking helps you de-stress, maybe you can replace it with a relaxing evening routine that gives you the same comfort without causing blood sugar spike or making you feel depressed.

If restricting calories makes you feel in control, find other areas in your life where you can channel that need for structure without slowing down your metabolism or sucking your energy dry.

Small Actions, Big Impact

Instead of all-or-nothing, try starting small. You don’t need to overhaul your entire life overnight. Focus on taking one small step at a time. Maybe that means drinking more water, adding more greens to your plate, or finding 10 minutes each day to move your body. Remember, Wakanda wasn’t built in a day, and neither is lasting change.

The magic happens when you can start stacking those small wins. Over time, they lead to big transformations, and before you know it, you’ve built a lifestyle that not only looks good but feels good too.

Your Turn 🙌🏽 Make It Happen!

So, what’s your first small step going to be? What’s one thing you can do today that aligns with the healthier, stronger version of yourself? Write it down somewhere where you can see it daily and commit to taking that first, small step this week!

Final Thoughts

Change doesn’t have to make you wanna jump on a plane and leave your whole life, and it doesn’t have to happen in a day, week or month.

By understanding the push-and-pull of your behaviors, you can create a plan that makes your goals feel realistic and like you can keep them up. It’s all about making small, consistent changes that add up over time. Let’s get this transformation all the way together! 💪🏾
